Bringing hope to both orphans and needy Ugandan children is the least we can do.

Amatsiko is a registered community based organization (CBO) operating in South- Western Uganda, Kabale District, Kigezi region. The idea for the project was initially conceived in 2005 by Alex Atuheire, the project director, after he saw the detrimental effects that being orphaned or vulnerable had on the future of the community's children.

Alex has been helping vulnerable children around the Lake Bunyonyi region for several years and is always keen to develop new and improved ways to help them further. Amatsiko was officially registered as a CBO at the start of 2011.

We would like to offer our immense gratitude to all of those who have contributed and helped improved the lives of our children.

Amatsiko means Hope in Rukiga, the language of the Bakiga, the local tribe in Kabale district, south west Uganda. We are a community based organization (CBO) operating in South- Western Uganda, Kabale District, Kigezi Region. Our mission is to respond to the needs of orphans, children and people with a disability and vulnerable children based around Kabale District and neighbouring districts , many of whom have lost their parents due to the HIV/AIDS virus. We aim to provide health care, quality education and basic resources in order to improve the lives of the children and communities we help.

The project is currently supporting 610 children and their communities in need.  Of these, more than 137 of the children are orphans (in Uganda the loss of one parent is also tantamount to being an orphan). We provide basic food, clothing and bedding, supporting children through school, offering guidance and counselling services and teaching basic hygiene and sanitation.

We are currently sponsoring 247 children through primary education at Amatsiko Preparatory School, 15 in secondary education and 9 in tertiary education. In the future the project wishes to help more children, gain more sponsors and to develop its programme to include the construction of a Community School and income generating projects such as beekeeping, small-scale rabbit farming and craft making.

We are hugely grateful to all of those who have shown generosity and kindness by supporting our organization. Without donations we would not be able to continue helping to improve the lives of orphaned, children and people with a disability and vulnerable children. Together we really can change lives for the better.

If you would still like to know more about the project or would be interested in making a donation please contact us at infoamatsiko@gmail.com
